Megapoxy 63 Instructional Video

Product Overview

Megapoxy 63 is a two-component, high-strength, impact-resistant, translucent epoxy adhesive for bonding and filling stone. It is available in conveniently pre-packaged 3 L and 15 L kits with a simple 2:1 mix ratio. Before you begin mixing, you will need to ensure that all contact stone surfaces are clean and clear of oil, dust, and any other surface contaminants. Stone surfaces should be prepared by grinding the surface and removing all the dust and debris, which helps ensure effective bonding contact. Megapoxy 63 is VOC free. As with all epoxy resins, please wear appropriate PPE including eyewear, gloves, and clothing when mixing and applying the product.

Mixing Instructions

Megapoxy 63 is a high-strength thin-film epoxy adhesive gel with a 30-minute work time and a 24-hour cure at 25°C. It’s best to mix on a non-porous, flat surface. When you’re getting the Part A, it’s best to make sure you’ve got two similar-sized portions sitting next to each other, as it is a 2:1 product. Then you have one Part B portion, the same height and roundness as the other two. Work them together thoroughly. Because they are very similar in colour, you must make sure it is quite well mixed, usually mixing for approximately three minutes. Make sure to scrape the bottom and surface. This one can be very difficult to see if it is still streaky, so it’s important to use your timer. Scrape the spatulas as well, as there is always unmixed product left behind. Work what you have scraped off back into the mix. Once it is all mixed, it should be a nice, even, uniform colour and is then ready for use.

Applications – Bonding, Mitering, and Laminating

Megapoxy 63 is recommended for stone applications from thin-film mitering and laminating for pencil bullnose-type applications to filling holes in natural stone surfaces. It has exceptional water and UV resistance. Megapoxy 63 is very easy to use; it is a soft gel that is easy to apply and stays exactly where you put it. It is used a lot for mitering and thin-film applications. It can simply be buttered onto the stone surface. As you can see, it doesn’t run down the stone; it stays where you put it. You get nice full coverage across the face, and it is best to do two sides. Once you apply the glue to each face, the pieces are normally put into a jig to make sure everything is nice and square. Once all the joints are full of Megapoxy 63, clamp it up so it stays in place and allow it to cure.

Applications – Pencil Bullnose and Laminations

Megapoxy 63 is also good for laminating, pencil bullnosing, and buttering the surface. It’s easy to apply and does not run away. Once the adhesive has been applied and everything is assembled, allow it to cure. Once it has been honed and cured, this is what the completed article looks like.

Tinting and Colouring Megapoxy 63

Megapoxy 63 can also be coloured quite easily using Megapoxy pigments. First, count out the Part A and Part B again — two portions of Part A and one portion of Part B. Keep the Part B a little away for now. In this case, a beige pigment is used. Megapoxy 63 is easy to colour; you don’t need much pigment. Work the pigment into Part A first. Because the A and B have already been measured, you know the final mix will still be very close. Once Part A is coloured, introduce Part B and mix again for the full three minutes. You can no longer see the difference between the A and B because of the pigment, so it’s important to rely on mixing time. Clean the scraper and work that material into the mix as well.

Filling Travertine and Porous Stone

The coloured Megapoxy 63 can then be used for filling travertine or very porous stone, which is done regularly to allow the stone to be used in environments such as benchtops. Once the mixture is ready, apply it onto the stone, making sure to work it in and force it into the bigger holes first, removing the trapped air. Then work across the entire surface. It is soft and works easily into the holes. Megapoxy 63 is easily tintable and can be matched closely to the stone or used as a contrasting feature. Once the holes are filled, if the stone is used as a benchtop, it prevents food from becoming trapped in the holes. Applying Megapoxy 63 is easy and fast. It can be applied with a trowel or spatula. Uncured Megapoxy 63 can be cleaned with Megapoxy thinners.
