Megapoxy HT Instructional Video

Product Overview

Megapoxy HT is a gel-style hydrophilic epoxy resin for many types of bonding and filling applications. It is suitable for repairs to damp and wet surfaces and is available in conveniently prepackaged 4 L and 20 L kits with a 3:1 mix ratio.

Surface Preparation

Before you begin mixing, you’ll need to ensure that all contact surfaces like metal, concrete, and stone are clean and clear of oil, dust, and any other surface contaminants. Concrete and stone surfaces should be prepared by grinding the surface and removing all the dust and debris. This helps ensure effective bonding contact. Compressed air can be used to remove dust from cracks and holes. Clean metal surfaces with acetone to remove any oils or contaminants. Megapoxy HT is VOC free. As with all epoxy resins, please wear appropriate PPE including eyewear, gloves, and clothing when mixing and applying the product.

Mixing

Megapoxy HT is a hydrophilic epoxy gel adhesive. It has a 30-minute work time with a 24-hour cure at 25°. Megapoxy HT uses a 3:1 ratio. Part A is a thick grade gel and Part B is a clear liquid.

When using this in small quantities, it’s best to use mixing containers. For small volumes, pack one container three times. Being a gel and a liquid, it is quite difficult to guess the ratio, so using two same-size containers plus a larger mixing container gives accuracy.

Pack Part A into the first container, ensuring no pockets in the bottom and that it is full and level. Scrape the top to level it, then add it into the mixing pot. Repeat this three times for accuracy, as gel can be easily overfilled. Once Part A is measured, Part B can be poured. Part B is a nice liquid and very easy to measure to the top—three parts A to one part B.

Being a liquid and gel combination, take care during initial mixing to avoid splashing the Part B. Work it together slowly until it starts to blend and become uniform. Megapoxy HT should be mixed for 3 minutes—2 minutes initially, ensuring you work Part B into Part A and scrape the bottom of the container. Use a timer. No rapid stirring is required; just steady folding and blending.

As mixing continues, the product becomes more uniform with no free liquid floating. Make sure to scrape the bottom, sides, and clean the scraper so no unmixed product remains. After 2 minutes, scrape all sides and mix for a further 1 minute. The final mix should be a soft gel, uniform in colour, and ready for use.

Applications

Megapoxy HT is recommended for filling and repairs for wet-to-dry and new-to-old concrete bonding, concrete cracks, grouting of bolts, and underwater or splash-zone structures and surfaces. Mixed 1:1 with dry sand, Megapoxy HT is ideal for high-build epoxy mortar.

Application Method

Applying Megapoxy HT is easy and fast. Uncured HT can be cleaned with Megapoxy thinners. It will cure even in cold or damp conditions. Stronger than concrete with good chemical resistance, it can be applied by trowel or gunned using a 300 mL cartridge, a standard caulking gun, or a caterer’s piping bag. Load the combined epoxy into the gun by spreading onto paper, rolling it, and inserting it into an empty cartridge.

Surfaces can be smoothed by wetting a clean trowel blade and gliding it over the surface. Rewet the blade frequently to prevent the epoxy from gripping. Once cured, HT has a high compressive strength but can be ground, sanded, and shaped easily with power tools to give a smooth surface finish.
